Second Grade
Subjects
We are very busy in second grade. Below is a brief description of our school day.
Language Arts
We use the reading series Benchmark. This series focuses on all areas of literacy including read alouds, phonics, comprehension strategies, and guided reading. We focus in second grade on improving our fluency, accuracy, and comprehension skills.
Math
Our Math series is called EnVision. This series teaches our students to be math problem solvers. Students are taught place value to 1,000, an introduction to multiplication, money, telling time, addition and subtraction strategies, and measurement.
Writing
In Writing, our students will be learning how to write different pieces including personal narratives, informational writing, opinion writing, and research with text based evidence.
Cursive is also introduced in second grade.
Science and Social Studies
During Science we will explore topics including but not limited to the scientific method, matter, landforms, weather, and habitats. During Social Studies, we will learn about things like holidays and traditions, map skills, PA and US history, and economics.
